Traditionally referred to as X-ray, the Imaging Department at Decatur General has grown to encompass numerous technologies designed to assist your physician in diagnosis and treatment. Decatur General offers many options in imaging. Specially trained staff in each of the following areas will help your physician determine the treatment you need through a variety of procedures.
Mammography Center
Located in the Medical Plaza,
the Mammography Center is a comfortable, private and convenient place
for women to have a mammogram. Accredited by the American College
of Radiology, the Mammography Center includes its own X-ray and ultrasound
machines, offering comprehensive treatment in the Center. The combination
of a specially trained staff and the highest technology helps ensure
that your visit is the best it can be. Our Mammography Center was
the first in North Alabama
to offer En-Bloc®,
a new breast biopsy procedure
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Expert staff members operate one of the finest modalities on the market - the 1.5 Tesla GE Wide Open MRI machine.
Computerized Tomography Scanning
Our CAT scan services are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Characterized by the highest technology and trained staff, this service is convenient and very fast, allowing a body scan in a matter of minutes.
Nuclear Medicine
Our Nuclear Medicine department, conveniently located on the first floor of the hospital, allows for imaging procedures requiring low doses of radiation, such as scans of the thyroid, heart, gall bladder, bone and kidney. All our nuclear medicine technologists are certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
Ultrasound
Specially trained ultrasonographers perform a wide range of ultrasounds, including OB/GYN procedures.
X-ray
X-rays are performed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The majority of work done in the Imaging Department continues to be traditional X-ray. We welcome your physician's referral for any of the tests.
