Named in honor of Dr. Kermit Pitt, the first board-certified pediatrician in Decatur and who provided medical care to families in the Tennessee Valley for more than 50 years, the Kermit Pitt, MD Pediatric Center is a place for special care for our younger patients. The Center features five private rooms, five family suites, an adolescent activities room, children's playroom, recreation area and family conference room. Each of these bright and cheerful rooms is furnished with a TV and a VCR for the children's entertainment. A variety of toys, video games and video library, including a bedside Sony Play Station II, are also available to help make our young patients comfortable during their stay.

At Decatur General, we recognize the importance of keeping the family together during the hospitalization of a child. We encourage parents to stay in the room with their child and courtesy meals are provided to them during the hospital stay. Registered Nurses in this unit are certified in pediatric advanced life support. Respiratory therapy, dietary, orthopaedic and physical therapy services are available — all with special consideration to the needs of pediatric patients.
