COMMUNITY
Decatur General, committed to community, provides an array of community education classes, support groups, programs and special events for practically all stages of life. Each year, we offer more than 300 classes and support groups, ranging from prenatal education to exercise for fibromyalgia patients.
Decatur General has several annual events, including a fun run and a night out for women. Cancer screenings, blood pressure screenings and blood drives also take place each year. Programs include our LifeStyle group, for adults age 50 and older, and a camp for adult cancer patients.
Our involvement in the community does not stop with educational classes,
but reaches out through health fairs, a partnership with Somerville
Road Elementary School, a partnership with PACT, and ties to many
civic groups and associations. Not only do our employees give of their
time at the hospital, but they volunteer many hours at community events
throughout the year - Decatur General Nurse Volunteers gave 796 hours
of their time at community events in 2003 alone.
In addition, we offer physician referral to help you find the right physician for your health needs. Physician availability, insurance filling practices and office locations are made available to you through this program.
If you would like more information about any of our classes and events, please contact Decatur General HealthMatch/Physician Referral at healthmatch@decaturgeneral.org.
