The Cardiopulmonary Department plays a vital role in the care of the cancer patient by providing diagnostic testing as well as therapeutic procedures as needed. The department is a blend of multi-disciplinary personnel specializing in cardio-respiratory medicine. The respiratory care personnel administer aerosolized medications ranging from antibiotics and bronchodilators to opioids for palliative care. They perform arterial blood gas analysis, pulmonary function tests, cardiopulmonary stress testing and nutritional evaluation utilizing indirect calorimetry. They also assist with bronchoscopies, perform pulmonary patient assessments and participate in patient education. The Cardio-Neuro personnel provide a variety of diagnostic tests including electrocardiograms, cardiac stress testing, echocardiography, holter monitoring as well as electroencephalography. Sleep Center personnel perform Nocturnal Polysomnograms and multiple sleep latency tests for diagnosing a variety of sleep disorders.
